Calculate the profitability of a quote
For each line, the selling price and the cost; add the discount and the job costs: you see the real margin of the quote and the price to offer to reach your target.
All amounts are excl. VAT, in MAD.
Travel, subcontracting, unbilled hours…
You will find this calculation pre-filled in the BILLX editor: nothing is saved or issued until you confirm. If you have no account, sign-up is free and the calculation will be waiting for you.
The calculation runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent or stored.
The method
Turnover excl. VAT = total of lines − overall discount. Costs = line costs + job costs. Margin = turnover − costs; margin rate = margin ÷ turnover.
The break-even point
This is the turnover excl. VAT below which the quote costs you money: it equals your total costs. A negotiated discount always comes out of the margin, never out of the costs.
Reaching the target margin
Price excl. VAT needed = costs ÷ (1 − target margin). If you give a discount, divide again by (1 − discount) to get the price to show before discount.
Good practice
Cost everything, including travel and time spent outside billing. State how long the quote is valid, and have it signed before you start: in BILLX, online signature and conversion into an invoice take one click.
